Chartwell · West Vancouver
A hillside neighbourhood on the slope above Marine Drive between Brothers Creek and Lawson Creek
According to the West Vancouver Archives, Chartwell is a neighbourhood that runs from Brothers Creek on the east to Lawson Creek on the west, with its southern edge near Chartwell Elementary and Sentinel Secondary School and its northern edge at the 1200 foot level on Hollyburn Ridge. Chartwell Drive is its main collector road. Greater Vancouver REALTORS reports Chartwell and the British Properties as separate areas, so confirm which area a listing belongs to.
The name comes from Chartwell, the Kent home of Sir Winston Churchill, and British Pacific Properties called the area the Chartwell Extension of its Capilano Estates subdivision during development. The District bought the land for Chartwell Park, between Chartwell Drive and the western arm of Brothers Creek, from British Pacific Properties in 1966.
In the latest Greater Vancouver REALTORS report, Chartwell activity was detached homes only, with no sales in September against 35 active listings. That is a single month, and we do not predict what comes next. We show the dated numbers so you can read them yourself.
Buying here is mostly buying a house on a specific lot on a slope. Drainage, retaining walls, title, permits, views and access matter. Later sections cover what to check.
Wallace Green Real Estate Group works across the North Shore with a data driven approach: look at the real numbers, then give you a straight answer. Our team brings local North Shore knowledge to every West Vancouver property conversation, and we point you to the District, the school district and the monthly Greater Vancouver REALTORS data rather than claiming a long West Vancouver sales history of our own.

Chartwell Market
Detached homes in Chartwell: the benchmark is $4,450,600, down 12.3 percent year over year, with 0 sales against 35 active listings. That is about 57.7 percent above the GVR West Vancouver reporting area detached benchmark of $2,822,900, which includes communities outside the District of West Vancouver. There were no condo or townhome sales or active listings, so GVR published no condo or townhome benchmark for Chartwell. A benchmark is a statistical measure of a typical home in a segment, not the price of a particular home.
The detached sales to active listings ratio was 0 percent, inside the buyer's market range. Greater Vancouver REALTORS treats below 12 percent as the buyer's market range, 12 to 20 percent as balanced and above 20 percent as the seller's market range. The GVR West Vancouver reporting area ran a detached ratio of 9.0 percent. One month with no sales is a snapshot and not a trend.
Selling in Chartwell
Four things buyers and their lawyers will look at first. Having them ready makes the conversation about price better informed. We make no promise about price, speed of sale or demand.
Survey, title and permits
Buyers and their lawyers will ask for the survey, title documents, any covenants or easements, and permits and inspection reports for past work. Have them ready.
The lot, slope and drainage
Be ready to explain the lot, retaining walls, drainage, driveway and access, and any known issues. Document major work.
Setting and surroundings
Homes sit on the slope above Marine Drive near creeks, parkland and the ridge in different ways. Buyers will visit at different times of day, so be honest about noise, traffic, access and parking.
Comparables, not the benchmark
The benchmark is a statistical measure and monthly sales counts are very small. Price using recent sales on your street and nearby streets, reviewed against the dated data in Section 5. We make no promise about price, speed of sale or demand.
These are locations named in District of West Vancouver and Archives sources. We make no claims about prices or demand for any of them.
A park between Chartwell Drive and the western arm of Brothers Creek, bought by the District from British Pacific Properties in 1966.
The main collector road of the neighbourhood.
The Archives use these two creeks as the east and west edges of Chartwell. Creek proximity matters for drainage and setbacks, so ask about any specific lot.
The northern edge of Chartwell is the 1200 foot level on Hollyburn Ridge. The District describes the Hollyburn Cabin Area as a backcountry network near Cypress Bowl Road for experienced hikers, skiers and snowshoers. It is a separate area, and we do not quote a distance.
The British Properties are reported separately by Greater Vancouver REALTORS. See our British Properties page.
Life in the neighbourhood
Parks and recreation. Chartwell Park lies between Chartwell Drive and Brothers Creek, and the ridge above is described by the District as backcountry for experienced users. Check the District site for current details, closures and rules.
Getting around. Chartwell sits on the slope above the shoreline, so routes down to Marine Drive, Park Royal and Ambleside depend on the street. Routes and traffic vary by address and time of day. Check TransLink for current transit options and test your commute at the times you would travel. We do not quote travel times.
Daily errands. We do not name businesses because they change. Check the route from the home you are considering.
Buying a house. Check zoning, title, covenants, survey, permits, slope and drainage. If the home is near a creek or on a slope, ask your lawyer and the District about anything specific to the lot.
Schools and catchments
West Vancouver Schools is School District 45. Catchments are set by address, not by neighbourhood, and can differ between nearby addresses. Use the School District 45 School Locator for each address you are considering, and confirm eligibility with the school or district. We do not assign a school to Chartwell as a whole.

The Archives record says the name comes from Chartwell, the Kent home of Sir Winston Churchill. Chartwell Drive is the main collector road of the area, and during development British Pacific Properties called it the Chartwell Extension of its Capilano Estates subdivision. The record cites the 2004 West Vancouver Historical Society gazetteer, so confirm the wording before relying on it.
The Archives list Chartwell Park, between Chartwell Drive and the western arm of Brothers Creek. The District bought the land for park purposes in 1966 from British Pacific Properties. Park features and access change over time, so check the District parks pages for current details and walk the route from any home you are considering.
The District describes the Hollyburn Cabin Area as a backcountry network near Cypress Bowl Road with about 100 cabins along the ridge, most reachable only by trail, and says it is for experienced hikers, skiers and snowshoers. It does not say how far it is from any neighbourhood. Check the District and Cypress Provincial Park sites for access, closures and conditions.
No. A Greater Vancouver REALTORS benchmark is a statistical measure of a typical home in a segment. It is not the price of any particular home, and individual houses vary with lot, view, size, condition and location. The market section shows the latest dated figures. Chartwell has few sales in a month, so look at several months together before drawing conclusions.
In the September 2026 report there were no detached sales in Chartwell against 35 active listings, so the sales to active listings ratio was zero. That describes one month only. A month with no sales does not say what will happen next, and a benchmark is still not a price for your home. Compare a specific home with recent sales on nearby streets and look across several months.
Confirm the zoning for the exact address, the title and any covenants or easements, and ask for a current survey. Review permits and inspection reports for past renovations. Check the slope, drainage, retaining walls and the condition of the driveway and decks. Visit at different times of day to judge traffic, noise and access.
In the September 2026 Greater Vancouver REALTORS report there were no condo or townhome sales and no active condo or townhome listings in Chartwell, so there are no condo or townhome benchmarks. Activity in that report was detached homes. Listings change over time, so run a search to see what is available now.
Greater Vancouver REALTORS reports Chartwell and the British Properties as separate areas, and both sit on the slope above Marine Drive. The Archives describe Chartwell as the area between Brothers Creek and Lawson Creek, so compare each listing against sales in the same reporting area, not the neighbouring one. See our British Properties page for that area.
School catchments in West Vancouver are set by address, not by neighbourhood name, and one street can differ from the next. Use the School District 45 School Locator, enter the street and house number, and keep a record of the result. Confirm eligibility with the school or district before you rely on it when buying, and do not assume the same result for another address nearby.
Chartwell sits on the slope above the shoreline, so the route down to Marine Drive, Park Royal and Ambleside depends on the street. Routes and traffic vary by time of day, so test the commute you would actually make and check TransLink for current transit options. We do not quote travel times.
Gather the survey, title documents, permits and inspection reports, and records of any major work. Be ready to explain the lot, slope, drainage, retaining walls and any access or easement questions. Price using recent sales on your street and nearby streets, and review the dated figures in the market section rather than relying on the area benchmark alone.
