Mount Seymour
North Vancouver
The local favourite — relaxed, family-friendly and a touch wilder, with downhill terrain, tobogganing, snowshoeing and backcountry access. The go-to for families east of the bridge.
Cypress Mountain
West Vancouver
The largest of the three local hills and a 2010 Olympic venue, with the most downhill terrain and a dedicated Nordic area for cross-country and snowshoeing. Just over the boundary, but a North Shore staple.
More Than Lifts
Beyond downhill
Winter on the North Shore is not only about chairlifts. The local mountains open up a whole season of ways to be outside in the snow, most of them family-friendly and many of them lit for the evening.
- Night skiing and riding. All three local mountains run lights, so a few turns after work is a normal weeknight, not a special occasion.
- Cross-country and Nordic. The Nordic area at Cypress has dedicated cross-country trails, with snowshoe routes spread across all three mountains.
- Snowshoeing and tobogganing. Easy, low-cost and perfect with kids, from groomed snowshoe trails to dedicated toboggan areas.
- Lessons and family programs. Each mountain runs ski and snowboard schools, making it simple to get a household started close to home.
And when you want the big mountain
Whistler Blackcomb, one of the largest ski resorts in North America, sits about 90 minutes up the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway — close enough for a long day trip or an easy weekend when the local hills are not quite enough. Living on the North Shore puts you at the gateway to the corridor.
