The school district is well regarded, the streets are quiet, and a real sense of community still runs through the village centres.
What trips most families up is not whether North Vancouver works for kids — it does — but the mechanics: how catchments are drawn, why two homes on the same street can feed different schools, and how to weigh a school boundary against everything else that matters. How It Works
North Vancouver school catchments, explained
North Vancouver public schools are run by School District 44. Most schools are catchment-based, which means your home address determines the catchment school your child is eligible to attend, with cross-boundary options possible where space allows. The District also offers programs such as French immersion at select schools.
Because catchments follow streets and natural boundaries rather than neighbourhood names, the safest move is always to confirm the exact catchment for a specific address. Here is how the six public secondary schools map across the Shore, by neighbourhood.
Carson Graham Secondary
West of Lonsdale & the western District
Upper Lonsdale, Pemberton Heights, Pemberton, Princess Park, Norgate, Braemar, Delbrook, Upper Delbrook, Mosquito Creek, Harbourside, and the west side of Lower and Central Lonsdale.
Handsworth Secondary
The Capilano Highlands
Edgemont, Canyon Heights, Forest Hills, Grouse Woods, and Capilano.
Sutherland Secondary
East of Lonsdale & central east
Calverhall, Queensbury (Moodyville), Boulevard, Westlynn, and the east side of Lower and Central Lonsdale.
Windsor Secondary
The bridge-to-Seymour band
Blueridge, Lynnmour, Seymour, Northlands, and Windsor Park.
Seycove Secondary
Deep Cove & the far east
Deep Cove, Dollarton, Roche Point, Indian River, Indian Arm, and Woodlands-Sunshine-Cascade.
The Lonsdale Avenue split most families miss
Lower Lonsdale and Central Lonsdale straddle Lonsdale Avenue, and the avenue is the dividing line: addresses on the west side feed Carson Graham, addresses on the east side feed Sutherland. Two homes a block apart can lead to different secondary schools. Worth confirming before you fall for a place.
