Marquee On The Drive has been developed and designed with the vision of award-winning Ankenman Marchand Architects. Once home to the Van East Cinema, the original building was conceived by the celebrated architect Bruno Freschi, famous in Vancouver for designing Expo 86 and Science World. Under Ankenman Marchand’s guidance, the building structure was thoroughly re-designed with new mechanical systems, soundproofing, windows and two brand new floors added to the top of the building. The result is a blend of the new and the old — a new building designed for the residents of the neighbourhood, while also maintaining the eclectic spirit of what has made the community what it is today.

The now five-storey building was developed with an emphasis on reducing the environmental impact of construction. Original bricks were dissembled, cleaned and re-used. The project preserved over 75 per cent of the existing walls, floors and roof, improved energy efficiency by 39 per cent and incorporated innovative considerations such as the installation of rainwater cisterns and water-efficient landscaping. As a result of this planning, the project was completed to a LEED-Gold standard equivalency.

Many of the homes offer massive entertaining decks and stunning views, with over-height ceilings for a spacious, airy feel. The result is a secure building comprised of a brick and steel structure with thick concrete floors, allowing for extra soundproofing between homes. Marquee On The Drive is a building with solid foundations and the latest in efficient features and design.

Interior Design

The interior finishes at Marquee On The Drive were selected by designer, Barbara Smyth. She has extended the Architect’s vision for fresh, open floorplans that maximize space and views, and over-height ceilings and extra large windows that invite in natural light. She has selected finishes that complement the sensibility of the homes, such as one-inch Quartz countertops that frame the chef’s kitchens which feature stainless steel brand-name appliances and the two-tone designer cabinetry with soft-close, whisper quality. Contemporary, plank laminate wood flooring in each suite and oversized tile flooring in the bathrooms complete the sophisticated feel.
